Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is an adventurous JRPG that focuses on battle strategy and exploration. There are classic features and new features for Pokemon trainers to experiment with. For example, abilities have been around since Generation III and have passive effects on and off the battlefield. Every Pokemon can have an ability, and species or forms usually determine them. Most of the time, Pokemon will have two available abilities that they might have. However, after Generation V, an additional ability slot was introduced called a Hidden Ability that can only be obtained through special circumstances. A popular ability with a rather complex effect is Mold Breaker. Here is everything players should know about Mold Breaker and what it does in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
What Does Mold Breaker Do
Whenever a Pokemon with Mold Breaker enters a battle, a tag appears and says the Pokemon "breaks the mold." Breaking the mold is another way of saying it cancels out other abilities and their effects. This is only the case for some abilities. Mold Breaker focuses on the abilities that change the outcome of the power or success of a move. For example, abilities that prevent status conditions, change type-effectiveness, or force actions onto a Pokemon will be ignored. It will also apply to any ally Pokemon that the ability covers. For example, a Pokemon with Mold Breaker can now use a sleep-inducing move against a Pokemon with Sweet Veil. Another typical example is Mold Breaker bypassing Levitate users, so Ground-type moves are effective against them.
Mold Breaker ignores the following abilities:
Aroma Veil | Damp | Flower Gift | Heavy Metal | Leaf Guard | Magma Armor | Own Tempo | Simple | Sturdy | Unaware | White Smoke |
Battle Armor | Dazzling | Flower Veil | Hyper Cutter | Levitate | Marvel Scale | Queenly Majesty | Snow Cloak | Suction Cups | Vital Spirit | Wonder Guard |
Big Pecks | Disguise | Fluffy | Immunity | Light Metal | Motor Drive | Sand Veil | Solid Rock | Sweet Veil | Volt Absorb | Wonder Skin |
Bullet Proof | Dry Skin | Friend Guard | Inner Focus | Lightningrod | Multiscale | Sap Sipper | Soundproof | Tangled Feet | Water Absorb | - |
Clear Body | Filter | Fur Coat | Insomnia | Limber | Oblivious | Shell Armor | Sticky Hold | Telepathy | Water Bubble | - |
Contrary | Flash Fire | Heatproof | Keen Eye | Magic Bounce | Overcoat | Shield Dust | Storm Drain | Thick Fat | Water Veil | - |
Pokemon With Mold Breaker
There are 22 Pokemon with the ability Mold Breaker, but only nine are available in Scarlet and Violet. Axew, Veluza, or Tinkatink and their evolution lines have Mold Breaker as their first or second ability. Tinkatink and Veluza are Generation 9 Pokemon found in the wild areas of Paldea. Veluza has a smaller territory range and habitats in water in the western parts of Paldea, specifically in the Casseroya Lake and West Paldean Sea, On the other hand. Tinkatinks are considered rare but are actually widespread in the South, and players can find at least one located in the following regions:
- Asado Desert
- East Province (Area Two)
- South Province (Area Four)
- South Province (Area Three)
- South Province (Area Two)
Axew is mainly located in several places, specifically the South Province (Area Five) and the North Province (Area One), including Glaseado Mountain. There isn't a guarantee that any of them will have Mold Breaker, but catching multiple will typically yield good results in no time. Players may also try their luck with finding a Hawlucha or Basculin, which have Mold Breaker as their Hidden Ability but can only be obtained with such through trading or breeding.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
