Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet have arrived, introducing players to a brand-new region full of Pokemon to catch, battle, and evolve. There are over 400 Pokemon in the Pokedex for the region of Paldea in Scarlet & Violet, including new additions and old favorites.
One classic Pokemon that has returned in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is Water/Psychic-type Slowpoke, along with its branching evolutions, Slowbro and Slowking. Unlike the standard evolution Slowbro, players will only be able to evolve their Slowpoke into a Slowking if they trade it while holding a King's Rock.
Where To Find King's Rock
The easiest way to get a King's Rock in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is by buying one from the Delibird Presents shop in Mesagoza. The King's Rock isn't available at the shop in the beginning of the game, but will appear after players have earned 4 Gym Badges in Scarlet & Violet. Once they've done that, all players need to do is hand over 10,000 Pokedollars to gain the King's Rock.
Alternatively, it's possible for the King's Rock to appear as one of the items for sale at the Porto Marinada Auction, west of Cascarrafa City. The Auction only unlocks after players have beaten Kofu, the Water-type Gym Leader of Cascarrafa Gym. His storyline works as an Auction tutorial, so players should be familiar with the system after defeating him.
While it is also possible to find a King's Rock as a random item, it seems to be an extremely rare drop. For a low cost in Pokedollars, it's much easier to buy the Rock than attempt to find it while exploring Paldea.
How To Evolve Slowpoke Into Slowking
Once players have acquired a King's Rock, they need to give it to their Slowpoke to hold. As a held item, the King's Rock gives a slight chance to Flinch enemy Pokemon after an attack. However, its main use is in evolving Slowpoke into the powerful Slowking.
In order to start this evolution, players will need to trade their Slowpoke that is holding a King's Rock with another player. Trading can be done within the Union Circle, which is accessible from any Pokemon Center, or by selecting the Poke Portal in the menu. Most players will want to trade their Slowpoke with a friend, so they can guarantee they'll get the evolved Slowking back afterwards. Alternatively, players can look for a Link Trade Code online, allowing them to swap their own King's Rock-holding Slowpoke for another version of the same Pokemon.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
