Sun Stones were a major addition to Pokemon Gold & Silver, and they return alongside all the other familiar evolution stones in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The item is known to evolve five different Pokemon, but not all of them return on generation nine.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet give players access to most of the familiar evolution items from past games in the series. Included in that are evolution stones like the Sun Stone. There are two Pokemon that evolve by Sun Stone in the Paldea region, meaning players will likely need to track them down during their playthrough. Here’s where and how to get Sun Stones and which Pokemon to use them on.
Where to Find a Sun Stone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can get a Sun Stone by completing the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek gym test in Artazon. Alongside this, players can more Sun Stones by picking them up off the ground.
Sun Stones can be found randomly in a number of locations as one of the random, sparkling pick-ups. There’s also a guaranteed Sun Stone north of the West Province Area One Pokemon Center, between the windmills and Giacomo’s Team Star base.
Alongside this, Sun Stones can appear in the Porto Marinada auction house. On each in-game day, a new set of items will appear in the auction house, with Sun Stones being a possible lot. The exact price of the item varies based on the NPCs the players bids against, so players may have to empty out their pockets to get some.
Which Pokemon Evolve with a Sun Stone?
Petilil and Sunkern are the two Pokemon that evolve with a Sun Stone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. There are other Pokemon that evolve by using a Sun Stone who are not currently in the game. Here’s the full list of discovered Pokemon that evolve by using a Sun Stone:
- Gloom
- Sunkern
- Cottonee
- Pettilil
- Helioptile
Pettilil and Sunkern are the only Sun Stone Pokemon that appear in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. They evolve into Lilligant and Sunflora, respectively. While there are a number of Pokemon programmed into the games that are not available to be captured and are not part of the Paldean Pokedex, there is no indication that Gloom, Cottonee, or Helioptile are coming to the games.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can look forward to one other Sun Stone Pokemon, though. Hisuian Pokemon are programmed into the games, including Pokemon Legends: Arceus Noble Pokemon Lilligant. Hisuian Lilligant will likely be added to the game at some point alongside the likes of Wyrdeer, Basculegion, and more.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
