Just like in its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players can use the in-game amiibo ability to gain access to dozens of materials, weapons, and cosmetics every day. Players are able to scan their amiibo once Link reaches the Great Sky Island and activate the optional setting.

How to Turn On Amiibo Functionality in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

In order to use the amiibo ability in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players must enable its use through the Options menu. Players looking to reap the benefits of amiibo functionality should press the (+) button and navigate over to the System tab. From there, the Options menu will be the third selection from the top. Once selected, players will be taken to the Options menu with the amiibo option already highlighted at the top. Selecting the option will prompt for confirmation, and afterward, amiibo functionality should be enabled.

Players are able to enable / disable amiibo functionality from this menu at any time during their journey. Some players may find that amiibo functionality is already enabled if the player has save data for Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch and enabled the setting in that game previously.

Using Amiibo in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Once enabled, players can access the amiibo ability using the L-button to access their ability wheel. From there, activate the amiibo ability as you would any other ability by highlighting the corresponding slice and releasing the L-button. When done correctly, players should have control of a white circle on the ground of them.

Scanning an amiibo drops rewards into the world, so players need to make sure to give them plenty of space to land. In order to scan an amiibo, the white circle must be on an unobstructed area on the ground. Adequate locations will have the white circle appear, while inappropriate areas will result in a flashing white X.

The Nintendo Switch reads the NFC tags of amiibo via the control stick of the Joy-Con (R). With a white circle still on the ground, players can tap any amiibo to the top of the right control stick to receive their rewards.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
