There's no doubt that one of the best parts of playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is taking Link around Hyrule and collecting every piece of armor available to him. And while the armor looks great the way it comes, part of what makes it fun is Link's eventual ability to customize his armor to look exactly like he wants. This can be achieved through Tears of the Kingdom's dye mechanic.

Dyeing armor in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a relatively simple process, but like so much else in the game, there is never a moment the player is told it is possible to do so. This guide will explain all steps Link must take to get the outfit color he's always wanted.

Where is the Kochi Dye Shop in Tears of the Kingdom?

Just as it was in Tears of the Kingdom's predecessor, Breath of the Wild, the Kingdom of Hyrule has only one shop where Link can alter the color of his armor. Once again, that shop is located in Hateno Village.

Link will likely hear of Hateno Village long before he makes his way to it in Tears of the Kingdom. Several Hylians will inform Link that Hateno is Hyrule's center for all things fashion related. This is about as close as the game comes to pointing Link towards armor alteration.

Hateno Village is located in the southeastern edge of Hyrule, in between Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower (3846, -1307, 0529) and the Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower (2419, -2762, 0222) in East Necluda.

Head to the coordinates 3400, -2139, 0121 to reach the Kochi Dye Shop specifically. The map will be fogged out at first, but Link can head toward the southeastern corner of the map to find his destination.

When Link has reached the Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village, he will want to go inside and meet Sayge. He will offer the following two options:

  • "Dye These Clothes"
  • "Rework the Paraglider"

To dye armor, Link will choose the first option. It is important to remember that each dye will cost Link 20 rupees, so make sure he has enough for each individual job. To complete a full dye job, follow these steps:

Step 1 - Choose Between A New Job, or Reverting a Previous Job:

Link can either dye a new set of armor, or Link can have a previously dyed set returned to its original color. Select "Please Dye" to start a new job.

Step 2 - Select Which Clothes to Dye:

Link can begin the process with the armor he wants to be dyed, but it is not mandatory. He will have the opportunity to change clothes during the job. Select "Choose a Color" to move to the next step or "Change Clothes" to change.

It is also possible that Syage will inform Link that Link's outfit contains one or more items that cannot be dyed. Special items like Tears of the Kingdom's Cece Hat or Champion's Leathers cannot be dyed.

Step 3 - Select Color

Once Link has selected his desired clothes, a color menu will come up. 15 colors cover the spectrum. Remember, Sayge will not dye individual items; he will only dye all three items at once. If Link wants only one item from a set dyed, try wearing it with two special items that cannot be changed.

Step 4 - Select Materials:

Link will have to pick five items that match his desired color. For example, Link can use five pieces of flint to fulfill the black dye's materials requirement or five Mighty Bananas to fulfill the yellow dye's requirements.

Step 5 - Pay 20 Rupees and Complete Process

Link will make his payment and go through Sayge's one-of-a-kind dye process.

Reworking the Paraglider

If Link wishes to change the fabric on his paraglider, he needs only select that option from the start. A menu will pop up that lists all fabrics that he has collected up to that point. Choose the desired fabric, pay 20 rupees, and Sayge will use his chute to allow Link to see his new glider in action.

With that, Link can return whenever he wants to dye his armor. Through this process, he can look good while taking on Tears of the Kingdom's toughest challenges.
