In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, one of the most common methods of solving a variety of puzzles involves the use of Link’s new Fuse ability. The player will learn this ability on Tears of the Kingdom’s starting island in the In-isa Shrine.

This shrine features a puzzle to solve that teaches one of the most fundamental uses of the Fuse ability: fusing items to arrows that are shot with a bow. This ability lets Link add elemental properties and other functionalities to his arrows, such as auto-targeting. Link can even affect the distance of his arrows by fusing the right materials. Here’s what players need to know about fusing arrows with items in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Fuse Arrows with Items in Tears of the Kingdom

Unlike fusing weapons with items, fusing arrows works differently. Instead of requiring the item to be on the ground or nearby to Fuse with a weapon, fusing with arrows is instead performed while aiming the arrow and preparing to fire.

To Fuse an item onto an arrow, enter the bow and arrow firing stance by holding ZR. This will cause Link to pull his bow and allows him to aim at his target. While aiming, press up on the D-pad, which will allow the player to select a material to attach to the drawn arrow.

The player can scroll through the various materials they have obtained, and each item will have a different effect when fused with an arrow. Some materials enhance the arrow's attack power, similar to weapons, while others provide significant advantages for solving puzzles and defeating enemies.

The player should scroll to the material they wish to Fuse with the arrow, then select the item by moving up with the right analog stick. This will attach the item to the arrow, and the player can return to aiming.

Releasing the R trigger will launch the newly Fused arrow at the target. The fusion can be canceled by issuing another command, such as pressing Y to draw Link's melee weapon. This will cause the material to unfuse from the arrow, and it will not be consumed.

Best Items to Fuse with Arrows in Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom features many puzzles, including those found in shrines and when discovering some Koroks, which can be solved using the Fuse ability. Fusing arrows with Bomb Flowers, for example, is an extremely common method used to create bomb arrows to break apart rocks and deal significant damage to faraway targets. This is commonly used to reveal previously hidden areas.

Fire Fruit is another popular material to Fuse with an arrow, as it will allow the player to light the target aflame (like those annoying tree enemies), which is good for burning leaves and vines or activating exploding barrels from a safe distance away.

Chuchu Jelly is an extremely versatile Fuse material that drops from the blob-like Chuchu enemies throughout Hyrule. Each type of Chuchu will drop jelly matching the enemy’s elemental property, which allows the player to gather materials to make ice, fire, and electric arrows easily. These are extremely handy for inflicting status ailments on enemies and solving puzzles.

Finally, Fusing the monster parts Wings and Eyes with arrows can drastically improve Link’s aim when using the bow and arrow. Fusing Wings to arrows will cause the arrow to fly straighter and farther, and Fusing Eyes will add a homing effect to the arrow, making it easier to hit flying or fast-moving enemies.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
