In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as Link nears the entrance of Gerudo Canyon, he encounters Naia, a vigilant Gerudo stationed as a guard. Naia wastes no time in cautioning Link about the treacherous conditions that lie ahead, particularly the region’s unpredictable weather.

Determined to ensure Link's readiness for the challenges ahead, Naia sets forth a simple test: Link must correctly answer her four questions, demonstrating his capability to endure the harsh elements and prevail. Here are the four questions Naia will ask, the correct answers, and additional tips to help ensure Link’s survival in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

All Naia’s Questions and Answers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Shortly after crossing the Digdogg Suspension Bridge, Link will come across Naia, located at coordinates -1650, -2049, -0015, who has stationed herself at the entrance of Gerudo Canyon Pass. Naia has made it her purpose to assess Link's ability to survive in the often brutal weather conditions of the canyon. Answering all four questions correctly will reward Link with a single Spicy Pepper, which can be used to cook cold resistance food.

To gauge Link’s understanding of what he’s getting himself into, she presents him with four increasingly challenging multiple-choice questions. This comprehensive guide not only provides the correct answers to Naia's inquiries but also offers valuable advice to improve Link's chances of survival in the region's harsh environment.

Naia’s First Question

  • Q: How can you best warm up when it’s cold?
  • A: Stay near a fire!

In Tears of the Kingdom, Link has various options for warming up, and starting a fire, as suggested, is a relatively straightforward task. However, certain materials are required. Link must acquire some wood—such as a wooden weapon, tree branch, or gathered lumber—and either a piece of Flint or a flammable material like a Fire Fruit or Red Chuchu Jelly.

Link then needs to place the wood on the ground and can either place a piece of Flint nearby and strike it with a metal weapon or throw a flammable item toward the wood, causing it to ignite and produce a flame. If using a flammable item, it’s important to note that it is not necessary to fuse the item with an arrow.

Naia’s Second Question

  • Q: When it is very hot out, where should you go to cool off?
  • A: A nice, shady spot!

Finding relief from the heat in the shade is a relatively simple concept, and taking shelter near sizable rocks, cliffs, and trees will lower Link’s temperature. However, this advice isn’t the best, as it requires Link to stay in one place until the weather conditions improve.

Naia’s Third Question

  • Q: What cooking ingredient is effective at fending off high temperatures?
  • A: Chillshroom

Cooking with Chillshroom creates “Chilly” dishes that provide Link with a heat resistance buff. The duration of this effect can be extended by incorporating a larger quantity of Chillshroom into the recipe. To acquire Chillshroom, the player must venture into cold, snowy environments, where they can typically be found at the base of trees. Excellent places to gather Chillshroom include Gerudo Mountains, Hebra Mountains, and Mount Lanayru.

However, Chillshroom are just one of many materials that can be used to craft heat resistance meals and elixirs. Link can also create heat resistance food by cooking with Hydromelons, Chillfin Trout, and Cool Safflina, and the Cold Darner and Winterwing Butterfly critters can be used to craft heat resistance elixirs.

Naia’s Fourth Question

  • Q: Where in Gerudo Canyon could you go to avoid being affected by the extreme temperatures, day or night?
  • A: Into a cave!

In Tears of the Kingdom, caves are remarkably cozy and can serve as secure havens from extreme weather conditions, whether scorching heat or freezing cold. One can stumble upon caves by either following a Blupee or by presenting an offering to Satori, Lord of the Mountain, at one of a handful of shrines throughout Hyrule. Once entered and discovered, cave entrances will be conveniently marked on the map, making them easier to locate again whenever Link requires refuge.
