Table of contents

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features many of the same characters from Breath of the Wild. Players will come across several NPCs they met before, including the four Great Fairies. In the previous game, all players had to do was find the four fairy fountains and give each of these giant women money to unlock the ability to upgrade armor.

In Tears of the Kingdom, however, there is a whole quest chain devoted to getting these ladies to help Link out. Players will need to collect musicians to play some songs for them if they want the Great Fairies' aid on their quest.

Serenade to a Great Fairy

In order to start the quest chain for the Great Fairies, Link needs to head to the Woodland stable. The Woodland Stable is located just north of Hyrule Castle and south of the Lost Woods. Players can find this stable at coordinates 1058, 1128, 0022.

Once there, have a chat with the pelican Rito named Penn. This NPC is a reporter for the Lucky Clover Gazette, and he is looking into Princess Zelda sightings. He will hire Link to help him out, saying he's on the hunt for the scoop and could use another pair of eyes. He will direct Link to head over to the Gazette's headquarters and chat with his editor, Traysi. The Gazette is located near the Rito Village in an abandoned stable near Oromuwak Shrine. It can be found at coordinates -3249, 1764, 0119.

Don't see Penn? Penn can also sometimes be found at Lookout Landing's Tower, or players might need to head right to Traysi first. Speaking with Penn is not a necessary part of this quest chain. Regardless, make sure to grab the shrine next to the Woodland Stable because Link will have to return there regardless.

Next, return to the Woodland Stable and talk with Penn and the Mastro. He will say that he wants to get the band back together and play a song for the Great Fairy, but first he needs to get the band's wagon, Breezer, repaired. There are some wagon wheels nearby that Link can use with his Ultrahand ability, attaching them to the wagon.

The Horse Harness

Next, Mastro will tell Link that he doesn't have a horse to pull the carriage, which he will need to take him and the band to the fairy. In order to get a horse to pull Breezer, Link will need to catch one himself. This horse needs to be one with Pull, so it cannot be Epona from an amiibo, the Great White Horse, or any other specialized horses. Once players have caught a horse, they will need to register it at a stable.

After capturing a horse and registering it, players will need to unlock the horse harness. The pulling harness must be unlocked by collecting Pony Points; the harness will cost 3 Pony Points. Players can earn these points by:

  • Paying for a night at a Stable.
  • Registering a horse.
  • Discovering a Stable for the first time.

Once three have been earned, interact with Pony Points book at a Stable, located to the right of the entrance. With three points, the harness will be automatically unlocked by clicking the Receive Reward button.

Put The Harness On A Horse

Next, players will need to put the harness on their horse. To change a horse's outfit, change their mane style, and put a saddle and bridle on them, head outside the stable and talk to the owner. Players will have the options to take a horse, register a horse, or customize horse. Choose the customize option, and then choose the horse to customize.

Choose to change the equipment, then select the harness from the menu. Use the Ultrahand ability to connect the harness to the item that Link needs to pull; in this case, the wagon Breezer.

The First Great Fairy: Unlocking Tera

Now that players have a horse connected to the working wagon, talk to Mastro again. Tell him and his violinist to get into the wagon; they will hop in and be ready to be driven to the Great Fairy. Be sure to take the smoothest possible road up to the Fairy; the band will complain if the road gets too bumpy.

Once players get the carriage close enough to the Great Fairy's location, the violinist will begin to play. Tera will pop out of the fountain, happy to have heard her favorite kind of music again. She will grant players a chance to level up their armor once.

After a short cutscene, players can return to the stable and talk to Mastro again. He will mark the locations of the other three Great Fairies on the map for Link. Each one is located near to a Stable and a Tears of the Kingdom Shrine. While players can do these in any order, here is a good order to do them in.

Unlocking Mija: How To Find Eustus

Zelda-Tears-of-the-Kingdom-Great-Fairy-Guide-03-1

Great Fairy Mija is located in the icy north of Hebra, near the Snowfield Stable. The coordinates are -1651, 2570, 0234, and the closest shrine is the Orochium Shrine. It's cold up there, so players will want to have some spicy food cooked to help keep warm. Players can also pick up the Snowquill armor in the Rito Village to protect them from cold damage.

Chat with Mastro at the stable, and he will tell players that his horn player is missing. This will give them the Serenade to Mija quest. If players head to the Adventure Log, they can set the quest as their current Objective to have the horn player, Eustus', current location come up as a yellow circle on their map. They will find Eustus at the bottom of a pit located at -3661, 0763, 0118, which is west of the Tabantha Bridge and the Tabantha Bridge Stable.

Head west from the stable across the Tabantha Bridge and follow the road around Piper Ridge. Around the area where the road turns to the east, the horn player will be in a hole near the road. Players should be able to hear him playing his horn if they are close by.

Eustus will tell players he's not planning on going anywhere without his wagon, so players will need to add some balloons and things to the cart to get it to float out of the hole. There are thankfully plenty of balloons, flame emitters, and other Zonai devices nearby. Put together a few things to get the carriage up and over the hill, then tell Eustus to get inside the wagon. Be careful; if the ride gets too rocky, Eustus will bail and Link will have to start over. If players don't have enough battery power to get up over the hill, they may need to head to the Crystal Refinery next to the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower to upgrade their battery.

Once Eustus is out of the hole, he will reward Link with three Courser Bee Honey, which will be useful in the next Great Fairy Quest. Meet him back at the Snowfield Stable, where he will be hanging around the stage with the Mastro. Talk to the Mastro, who will say that he needs a roof for Breezer. Add a roof with Ultrahand, then hook up a horse to the wagon. Tell Mastro to get in, and trot the whole band up to the fairy to play for her.

Unlocking Cotera: Give Beetz Some Honey

Zelda-Tears-of-the-Kingdom-Great-Fairy-Guide-0-1

Next up is Great Fairy Cotera, located near the Dueling Peaks Stable and the Eshos Shrine. Chat with Mastro again, and he will tell Link all about the missing drummer named Beetz. Beetz is located up the road at 2166, -1382, 0108.

After finding Beetz in his tent, he will ask Link for Courser Bee Honey, which Link should still have from rescuing Eustus. Give him the honey, then head back to the Dueling Peaks Stable. Players will be told that they need to help the band ford the river. Using the Ultrahand ability, make a boat and attach the wagon to it to get the team across the river and to the Fountain.

Unlocking Kaysa:

The last Great Fairy is Kaysa, who is located near the Outskirt Stable at -1435, -1265, 0032. It is near the Tsutsu-um Shrine. These are located between the Great Plateau and the Coliseum Ruins.

Once there, chat with Mastro again. He will direct players to the Highland Stable, where Pyper the Piper is located. Highland Stable is in the southern part of Hyrule, located in Faron near the Haran Lake and the Fural Plain; its coordinates are 0517, -3442, 0047. The closest shrine is the Utsushok Shrine. Once there, look for Pyper in a tree to the north of the stable.

Zelda-Tears-of-the-Kingdom-Great-Fairy-Guide-11

Talk to Pyper, who will ask for 10 Fireflies. These can be caught just before evening in the forest areas around Hyrule Field and purchased from several of the Beedles in the stables. Once Link has collected enough, give them to the boy, and he will ask players to bring Haite, a girl that works at the stable, just as night falls. Sit by a fire until night, then grab Haite from inside the Stable. Walk her over to the tree and a cut scene will play.

Head back to the Outskirt Stable, and look for Mastro. Breezer will need some all-terrain wheels to get over the rocks by the Fairy Fountain. Put on the big wheels nearby with Ultrahand, and drive the wagon up to the Fairy to finish up this quest chain.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
