The Ishokin Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom is another one of the Shrines that involve tracking down a large, green shrine crystal in order to complete. While the crystal is hidden in plain sight, players will need to complete the "Ride the Giant Horse" Shrine Quest before they can return it to where it belongs.

In Tears of the Kingdom, there are several unique horses that Link can tame. Two are giant horses, which as the Shrine Quest indicates, one of them will be required for the Ishokin Shrine. Those intending to complete this quest will want to set out for the Highland Stable near the Faron Grasslands (South of Hyrule).

Where to Find the Giant Horse & Giant White Stallion

Players can tame either (or both) the Giant Horse or the Giant White Stallion for the "Ride the Giant Horse" side quest. Since the Giant White Stallion is closer to the Shrine, it's recommended to bring him instead of the Giant Horse. Players can tame these horses at the following areas in Tears of the Kingdom:

  • Giant White Stallion: South of Highland Stable (0534, -3433, 0047), past the Horse God Bridge (0738, -3729, 0080).
  • Giant Horse: Spotted at Hateno Beach (4129, -2453, 0003), east of Hateno Village.
    • Those that have tamed the Giant Horse on their Breath of the Wild file can transfer him to their Tears of the Kingdom file. Note that by using this method, the Giant Horse won't show up at Hateno Beach.

Giant Horses cost two and a half Stamina Wheels to tame. These can be earned by completing Shrines and exchanging their Light of Blessing for a Stamina Wheel at a Goddess Statue. Alternatively, Link can get a quarter of a Stamina Wheel by assisting the Poe statue in the Great Abandoned Central Mine.

If players are taming the Giant Horse, they'll need to register him at the closest stable near Hateno Village, which happens to be the Dueling Peaks Stable (1745, -1929, 00010). Alternatively, players can make a break for the Faron Region from Hateno, but it's safer to register him in case something happens.

Ishokin Shrine Location ("Ride the Giant Horse" Walkthrough)

Those taming the Giant White Stallion at 0738, -3729, 0080 can go straight to Darybon Plains, which is where the Shrine Quest is located. If players are starting from the once-Horse God Lake, then follow closely:

It's generally recommended to register the Giant White Stallion at the Highland Stable before starting the Ishokin Shrine Quest (Ride the Giant Horse).

  1. Atop the Giant White Stallion, head back in the direction of Highland Stable (0534, -3433, 0047).
  2. Refer to the map (zoom in twice), instead of taking a right towards the path leading back to the stable, go north towards Harfin Valley.
  3. To the left, cross the bridge over the Menoat River (-0122, -3419, 0015). There's a Monster Ship anchored nearby in the river for those that need a land marker.
  4. Once past the bridge, go south and up the slope of the Darybon Plains. Avoid the Pappetto Grove and the Parache Plains, the latter of which is in the opposite direction.
  5. Go towards a campsite at -0694, -3393, 0172; players will see the Shrine Crystal.
  6. Speak to the NPC here (Baddeck) to complete the "Ride the Giant Horse" Shrine Quest. Link can now take the Shrine Crystal.
  7. Use Ultrahand to attach the green Shrine Crystal to the nearby Zonai sled or carry it with Ultrahand back down the hill to the Shrine's terminal at -0565, -3524, 0129.

Ishokin Shrine Reward

Fortunately, there isn't a trial awaiting Link in the Ishokin Shrine. Head inside and loot the chest containing Topaz before receiving the Light of Blessing. Players can either sell topaz to merchants, use it for armor upgrades, or they can Fuse it to a weapon. By Fusing topaz, the weapon will gain the power of lightning. They'll function similarly to the Lightning Rod weapons used by the Electric Wizzrobes.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for Nintendo Switch.
