The Lightscale Trident is one of four Champion Weapons seen in both Breath of the Wild and now its sequel Tears of the Kingdom that were used by the previous Champions (and now Sages) of that time. Urbosa used the Scimitar of the Seven, Daruk used the Boulder Breaker, Revali used the Great Eagle Bow, and Mipha used the Lightscale Trident.

Now, in Tears of the Kingdom, these weapons are being used by their descendants Riju, Yunobo, Tulin, and Sidon. But, Link can also get a 'copy' of these weapons crafted for himself, so let's go over exactly how players are meant to go about getting the Lightscale Trident specifically.

Meet With Sidon & Clean Up Zora's Domain

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - Sidon Being Sidon

First off, players will need to actually clean up Zora's Domain first with the help of Sidon, which is one of the four 'Regional Phenomena' Purah has asked Link to investigate in Hyrule. Cleaning up the Domain includes:

  • Finding and talking to Sidon.
  • Meeting his fiance Yona.
  • Finding the King and getting some scales from him.
  • Solving the Land of the Sky Fish Riddle.
  • Exploring the Ancient Zora Waterworks to create a waterfall pathway to the sky using the Zora Armor.
  • Fighting alongside Sidon through the Water Temple.
  • Beating the Mucktorock with Sidon and having him claim his title as the Sage of Water.
  • Accepting his Vow to fight alongside Link and returning to a (now clean) Zora's Domain to complete the 'Sidon of the Zora' Main Story Quest.

After these tasks have all been completed and Zora's Domain is back to the clear-water oasis it used to be, players can go to the room past the General Store to talk to Dento, the blacksmith who made the Lightscale Trident in BotW, and ask him to remake the Lightscale Trident again.

Talk To Dento Behind The General Shop

Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - Dento Mentioning That He'll Need A Zora Spear

Once players have talked to Dento and begun his 'Glory of the Zora' Side Quest, this Zora Blacksmith will go over all the info needed such as the fact that he can remake the Trident, what he needs to do so, and how the weapon actually works. This is, of course, the same Trident that Mipha and now Sidon uses, it'll cost Link some precious resources to get one of his own. Specifically, Dento needs 3 Diamonds, 5 Flint, and a regular or decayed Zora Spear.

Gather The Necessary Materials

So, after speaking to Dento, Link now has his shopping list of Materials needed to craft this illustrious spear. It's also worth noting that this is basically the list of Materials needed to craft all of the Champion Weapons in each Region, except replace the Zora Spear with whatever regional variant weapon that zone has and add 2 more Diamonds for the Gerudo's Scimitar of the Seven. In any case, how should players go about acquiring these items?

Diamonds

Now, depending on how early in the game players go to Zora's Domain (a lot of players tend to head here first, for some reason), 3 Diamonds might be a huge ask. Of course, with the Duplication Glitch in the game currently, 'making' 3 Diamonds is easy. But, for those who (understandably) don't want to use exploits, there are some other ways to get Diamonds quickly:

  • Use Sensor+ and Satori's Cherry Blossom Trees to hunt down Ore Deposits and Rare Ore Deposits in Caves and in the Eldin Mountains.
  • Feed Dondons Luminous Stones in Bronas Forest and come back sometime later to see if they've 'turned' them into Diamonds.
  • Hunt down and defeat multiple Talus to see if they'll drop Diamonds on death.
  • Look up the specific Shrine Chests and Side Quest Rewards that give Diamonds.

Flint

For the next Material needed, Flint, players should most likely already have between 30 and 99+ Flint on them by the time they talk to Dento. Flint is absurdly easy to acquire in Tears of the Kingdom, after all. All players need to do to get Flint is just look out for it while hunting Diamonds in Ore Deposits.

There's almost a 100 percent chance that they'll find the 5 Flint they'll need just by breaking, at most, 10 Ore Deposits. Flint, Amber, and Rock Salt are the three most common drops from these Deposits, so this is by far the quickest (and easiest) Material to gather.

Zora Spear

Finding a Zora Spear is right in the middle between Diamonds and Flint in terms of how difficult it is to acquire. Just like all regional weapons such as Scimitars in the Gerudo Desert or Cobble Crushers near Death Mountain, these weapons can randomly be found in the chests of defeated Like Likes in the area, in the hands of random enemies in the area, or in Chests in enemy camps. The easiest method out of all of those is just to go to any of the caves in the area of Zora's Domain such as Upland Zorana Summit Cave or the Ploymus Mountain Cave and look around in these for enemies and Like Likes. The Tabahl Woods Cave, for example, absolutely has two Like Likes in it that can be farmed (with a Blood Moon in-between kills) to get Zora Spears.

Alternatively, saving right before killing these Like Likes and then reloading if the Zora Spear isn't in the Chest works too, as the insides of these Chests are completely random and will likely be different with each reload.

Craft The Trident & Learn About How To Replace It If Needed

Now that Link has all the Materials needed, it's time to head back to Dento and have him craft this weapon of Champions. Once it's crafted and Link has it in his hands, Dento will then go into the specifics of how there can only be one in existence at a time, so Link must break his current one before another can be made. Additionally, if it does break, players will need to bring those same Materials to Dento again (3 Diamond, 5 Flint, and a Zora Spear) to get it remade.

Or Skip The Reforging Process & Just Use The Rock Octoroks

Thankfully, there is another method to repairing the Lightscale Trident other than breaking and remaking it. This isn't 'intended' by the developers exactly, but it's a method that absolutely works within the confines of the systems they created.

In the Eldin Mountains are a sub-species of Octorock called Rock Octorocks. These things disguise themselves as...well...rocks and will pop out of the ground when Link isn't looking to launch projectiles at him. But, if Link puts a regular damaged weapon or shield on the ground near the Rock Octorok and then walks away with his back turned to it, the Octorok will suck it up, have some sparkly effects appear around it, and then fire the weapon back at Link completely repaired.

All that said, this only works with regular weapons and is, by design, not meant to work with Variant weapons such as the White Sword of the Sky or the Lightscale Trident. However, if players just simply fuse these weapons onto a standard shield of any sort and then drop that Fused shield in front of the Octorock, it'll repair both the weapon fused to it (regardless of weapon rarity) and the shield when it spits it back out.

After this whole process is done, all players need to do is Fast Travel to Tarrey Town and go up to the teensy Goron next to the General Store named Pelison. Pelison does one thing, he breaks Fused items apart for the low low cost of 20 Rupees. And, just like that, players have a completely repaired Lightscale Trident in their hands and all it cost was a bit of time and 20 measly Rupees.

Is The Lightscale Trident Worth All The Effort?

And finally, after all this work, effort, and time, is the Lightscale Trident even worth it? Yes, absolutely. Moreso than any other Champion Weapon (except maybe the Scimitar of the Seven with the Strong Fusion Trait), the Lightscale Trident is absolutely brokenly strong in the right circumstances.

By default, it only has 22 Attack Power, but that's only in normal circumstances. As it turns out, the Lightscale Trident has the same unique Trait almost all Zora Weapons have called Water Warrior. With this Trait, the Attack Power of the Lightscale Trident literally doubles while Link is 'wet', and that includes whatever its Attack Power is after being Fused with another weapon/Material.

For example, a Molduga Jaw Fused to the Lightscale Trident gives it a power of 54 while dry, which is pretty respectable. When wet, however, that's an Attack Power of 108 with a spear of all things, which is one of the fastest-hitting weapon types in the game. And, to top it all off, the Lightscale Trident seems to have a pretty hefty amount of durability too. Still, the fact that Link needs to be dripping with water for this buff to be active is pretty silly or difficult to utilize, right? Actually, Sidon himself makes this whole process quite easy.

Slight spoilers ahead: Not to go too far into 'spoiler territory', but completing Zora Domain's Main Story Questline unlocks Sidon's Avatar for Link that will surround Link with water when interacted with. Link can then 'fire' that water forward by swinging his weapon or keep the water bubble around him to tank a single hit for free while it's active.

But, the important factor is that, after using this power once, Link will have the 'wet' status condition active for about a minute and a half (which can be seen by the water dripping from his clothes at all times). This is more than enough time to slay whatever Link is fighting, and even if it does run out mid-fight all Link has to do is interact with Sidon's Avatar again to reset the duration. This is all to say that the Lightscale Trident is absolutely worth the investment and will continue to be worth it even after Nintendo likely patches out that Rock Octorok workaround and the Duplication Glitch.
